Greece Sees 55% Surge in Tourists from GCC Countries

Press Release

Tourist traffic from GCC countries hits a record 55% increase

Dubai and Abu Dhabi marked the highest increase
Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and Athens the most popular destinations

Tourist traffic from GCC countries to Greece over the summer months hit a record increase of 55% compared to the corresponding period in 2015, according to latest data provided by Travel Plan, the leading Greek travel agency. Based on the very data, this significant increase particularly benefits destinations such as Mykonos, Santorini, Crete and also Athens, which strongly recovers as an attractive destination for travelers from GCC countries.

More specifically, tourist traffic from Dubai and Abu Dhabi recorded the highest increase, of 70% and 60% respectively, a development mainly attributed to the visa waiver for UAE citizens visiting Greece.

Travel Plan directly serves a large number of visitors from GCC countries through its Dubai subsidiary “Greece Travel Plan DMCC”, having also established strategic partnerships with top travel agencies in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. At the same time, objective of the company is to further enhance this growth tendency of incoming tourist traffic from GCC countries by providing complete travel bundles with tailor-made and VIP services.

The aforementioned initiatives are part of an extensive growth plan that the company has been lately implementing, which includes the penetration to new dynamic markets, the enhancement of the human capital -- now consisting of more than 100 specialized personnel -- as well as a comprehensive and ultra-modern online booking system.
